9/25
Officer-Involved Collision

1600 block of Branham Lane
Officer was operating a vehicle through the Safeway parking lot at Branham and Ross. The other driver backed out of a parking stall and collided into the passenger side of the police vehicle. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. There were no injuries sustained by either party.

Robbery

919 Meridian Ave.
A suspect entered the rear door to the Wienerschnitzel restaurant. The suspect took money from the counter as the employee was counting the last day’s sales. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, dark complexion, heavy set with a black mustache. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over his head. The take was cash. No weapon was seen.

Strong-Arm Robbery

1000 block of Leigh Avenue
Three suspects entered the liquor store and attempted to run out with a bottle of alcohol. One suspect was detained by store patrons. As the manager chased the other two suspects, one suspect stopped and punched him in the face. No merchandise was taken and two suspects are outstanding.

Child Endangerment

1800 block of Frobisher Way
District Tom Units responded to the location on a welfare check at the request of the Family Violence Unit. Officers made contact with the suspect. During a search, three handguns and three rifles were found loaded and laying in plain view in the suspect’s bedroom. It was determined that the suspect lives with his three sons, ages 12, 14, and 16. The residence was found to be unclean and unfit for the children to be living in. CPS was contacted and responded. The children were picked up from school and booked into the Children’s Shelter. The weapons were booked as evidence and the suspect was transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital with chest pains. No arrest was made pending review of the DA’s office.

Person Shot

700 block of Spencer Avenue
Officers responded to the report of a person shot inside the above location. A 17-year-old male subject shot his girlfriend while cleaning and waving his .22 caliber pistol around. The 18-year-old victim sustained a wound to the head and was transported to VMC. The victim remains in critical condition. The suspect was booked into Juvenile Hall for assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a weapon and probation violation. The suspect is on juvenile probation for a prior arson case for setting fire to Gardner Elementary School.

Auto-Pedestrian Accident

Bascom/Fruitdale
A 48-year-old male pedestrian crossing Bascom Avenue was struck by a SUV in the southbound number-one lane. The victim was transported to VMC in critical condition. The victim is in ICU at VMC. His injuries are life-threatening.

Armed Robbery

Alma/Alma Court
The victim was walking to work in the area of Alma/Alma Court at 5:30 a.m. when he was confronted by three or four Hispanic males and possibly one Hispanic female. The suspects were armed with a knife and a bike chain. The suspects demanded money and forcibly searched the victim taking his wallet with cash inside. The suspect then hit the victim with the chain and kicked him on the ground. The suspects then fled toward the railroad tracks. The victim went to work but was sent to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Burglary

Kingman/College Drive
An officer patrolling the area saw several male adults running. He stopped one suspect who had a sawed off rifle with him. A description of the other suspects was put out. Officers stopped one on Menker and stopped another at Richmond south of Kingman. Officers spotted a fourth suspect on a roof. He was arrested. The suspects were all running from an interrupted burglary that just occurred.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Unknown block of Lester Avenue
The victim arrived at VMC ER, transported by friends. He had a stab wound to the upper left chest and right thigh. Officers were able to interview associates and determined that the assault took place at the above location after a party. There is only a vague description of a suspect and the victim is expected to recover.

Grand Theft/Burglary

1100 Block of Branham Lane
An alert Longs store employee saw three females taking large quantities of cosmetics and jewelry. She called 9-1-1, giving police a complete description of the suspects and their car. The suspects left the store before police arrived. Officers saw the suspect vehicle on Almaden Expressway and made a car stop. There were bags of Longs merchandise in the car and over 50 bottles of liquor as well. The females were arrested and booked. The property was recovered and the car was impounded.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Biebrach Park Virginia/Delmas
A group of six to eight suspects attacked the victim in the tot lot at the above location. The victim was beat with baseball bats, bricks, and bottles. He sustained major injuries. The victim was in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. The attackers are still at large.
