Local Kiwanis Clubs holds community service day

Members from nine local Kiwanis Clubs and student members of up to 15 local high school Key Clubs got together at the Rose Garden on Saturday, April 5 to weed and mulch rose beds. The activity is part of the Kiwanis Clubs’ One Day, a national day of community service. Autumn Chang, a senior at Santa Teresa and president of her school’s Key Club, pronounced the day “very fun, I think gardening events are harder than they sound, especially when you are on your knees weeding. It’s hard work—the dirt is not as shallow as you think—but I had a lot of fun and met lots of people and had great conversations. The above picture includes freshman Brian Pham, freshman Emily Navala, Chang, event co-chair John Fukasawa from the Almaden Kiwanis Club, Cheryl Connolly from the downtown club, event co-chair Jerry Neece from the West San Jose club, Steve Schrupp from West San Jose, John Meurer from the downtown club, Maggie Schrupp from West San Jose, Division 12 Lt.
