Egg-stravaganza at the Camden Center

All the chocolate that’s fit to eat, plus some toys

It’s a good thing that the grass at the Camden Community Center’s field was cut pretty short; otherwise a lot of very young children would have been quite disappointed. The children turned out in large numbers to look through the field and find plastic eggs and various kinds of candy.

Nearly everyone had a big basket to collect the goodies, although one little girl decided she’d rather use her hat. The first group out—zero to 2 years old, needed a bit of parental help, and some encouragement. Typically, when they found something they wanted to sit and play with it.

The other kids were more savvy. They raced around collecting as much as possible before the field was picked clean. Eventually all of the groups had a turn.

It appeared the adults who were distributing the candies and eggs throughout the fields also were having a great time. Throwing a handful of candy at once caused a virtual rainbow in tin foil and also managed to help reduce stress.

There were lots of activities inside the Camden Center’s multi-purpose room to keep everyone busy throughout the morning. There was a large bunny with sad eyes handing out goodies to the kids. Ashley Allen, a junior at Branham High School, said she enjoyed being a bunny, but the costume was “awfully warm.”

Melissa Monsees from the Kirk Community Center’s Senior Program was available to help brighten up the faces of the younger crowd through paint. She designed some cat and some tigers that were quite scary. Other youngsters were happy with small hearts or flowers.

The children also were dancing to “Bunny Hop” music and making all kinds of spring pictures.

A good time was had by all, in fact, a number of kids didn’t want to leave!
