Cambrian Valley Longhorns take Peninsula championship

In a well played and hard-hitting game, the Peninsula Pop Warner Division II Midget (11-14 year-olds) Cambrian Valley Longhorns captured the football title on Sunday, Nov.16 as they beat the Morgan Hill Raiders 17-14.

Featuring great performances by both teams, the Longhorns’ Marcus Jones scored on a 1-yard run midway through the third quarter for what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown. Near the end of the game, the tenacious Longhorn defense stopped the Raiders on fourth and short, deep in their own territory, to preserve the win.

The game also featured a 35-yard field goal from Kristian Hernandez to open the scoring, and a nice fade touchdown pass from Grant Vermeer to Trevor Carter gave the Longhorns an 11-6 lead late in the second quarter. A tough, game-ending drive killed the clock to seal the victory.

The Longhorns’ next playoff game was tentatively scheduled for Nov. 29 at Woodside High School. If the Longhorns win this game they will be traveling to Florida for the Pop Warner National Championships.

Established in 1974, the Cambrian Valley Longhorns provide youth football and cheer programs for youth ages 5-15 years of age in the Cambrian community. The Longhorns home field is Leigh High School, and are members of the Association of Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc., otherwise known as Pop Warner.

Quito Little League Baseball Registration for 2009 Season
Boys and girls in Campbell, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, W. San Jose and Saratoga - check our website and boundary map to see if you can play in our league.  Quito is the “kid friendly league” where we focus on baseball fundamentals and teamwork. We have many great kids and families that participate in our league.  Quito has built new training facilities and upgrades to our fields behind Rolling Hills Middle School.  Quito welcomes new kids to baseball and Tee-ball with special training programs. Girls’ U12 Soccer Tryout
Santa Clara Sporting 97G White, a Class 1, Division 1 competitive girls’ soccer team, will be holding an open tryout session on Sunday, Jan. 18 from 12 – 2 p.m. at Curtis Field, 890 Pomeroy Ave. in Santa Clara, CA. Youth Soccer Tryouts for Pacific Soccer Academy
Pacific Soccer Academy will be holding tryouts at APJCC, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos, CA 95032 on Dec. 13 – 14, Jan. 31, and Feb. 1. Age groups/times are posted below:

2009 Almaden Valley Girls Recreational Softball Registration is open
This year the AVGSL has implemented an online registration system. Please visit WWW.AVGSL.ORG to register or to find out more information regarding our league.  We are accepting registration for ages Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14. Everyone is welcome to join our league – from first-time player to all-star - because we have a spot for you.  AVGSL’s main goal is to ensure that all players are in a fun, positive environment while learning and expanding their softball skills. AVGSL promotes a sense of belonging for everyone. We emphasize teamwork and the sense of individual success that contributes to team sports. No player will sit out more than two innings during a game, which offers each girl the opportunity to make contributions to their team while participating in a large part of all activities.  If you have questions, please email president@avgsl.org and we will be happy to help.
